Creating the perfect Secret Garden
Everyone loves a secret garden, right? They’re fun, mysterious, and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. When it comes to creating the perfect secret garden, it can be a little difficult. Where and how should you set up your secret garden?
The first step to creating your secret garden is to decide where you want to set it up. Find a place that makes you happy to sit in. Set up a chair in different parts of your yard to help you determine if you’d like your garden there. Your secret garden can be big or small. You can also create multiple gardens within one by dividing the yard into sections.
A secret garden should evoke a sense of peace. To do that we should incorporate some of the senses such as, smell, sound, and sight. Choose plants that give off beautiful fragrances like, roses, citrus trees, or lavender. For sound, you can add a little fountain, a pond, or plants that attract birds and bees. The appearance of the garden is really up to your imagination and the style you want. Wisteria, lavender, and baby’s breath create a romantic, fairytale look. While vines, billowing grasses, and moss create a mysterious look. Get creative and have fun!
When making your secret garden secluded, you don’t just have to use hedges and other plants. You can use fences, screens, and pergolas/gazebos. All of these can help add character to your garden. If you have the space to do so, a hidden entrance into your secret garden can add a fun, mysterious look. And don’t forget about the lighting! Landscape lighting can add a more mysterious, romantic, or mystical feel to your garden. It also allows you to use your garden space in the evenings.
